OUR WORK TEAM
Islamic Relief Canada is made up of a dynamic team of individuals who bring with them experience and skill to fight poverty.
Hafsa Hasan

Fundraising Director
Hafsa Hasan has been involved in community work since a very young age. As a student, she worked closely with a number of organizations including the McMaster Muslim Students Association, the Islamic Society of North America, Amnesty International and the Students Commission.
Hafsa was one of the 100 students across Canada chosen to meet the Governor General of Canada and was also the recipient of the Millennium Canada National Scholarship. Her keen interest in writing prompted her to be one of the people behind the Muslim Stories Project as well as other literary endeavors. Despite her busy schedule, she continues to remain involved in a number of projects and organizations.
Hafsa has experience in event management and in the fields of law and business operations. She graduated from McMaster University with a B.Sc Honours in Psychology and a B.A Honours in Religious Studies and plans to continue studies in the areas of non-profit law and business management.

Shaila Kibria

A highly active community member, Shaila Kibria has founded two food banks and a "Child Learning Centre". Her work includes human rights issues from everything between poverty and child care, to fair trials in Ontario courts.
Shaila is the author of Maariyah's Day, a book promoting the acceptance of other cultures and religions. Maariyah's Day is found in Chapter's book stores across Canada, and libraries and schools across Ontario. Shaila has freelanced on CBC radio, focussing on real life stories including the immigrant diaspora experience, arranged marriages, culural diversity and education.
As a teacher, Shaila Kibria fundraised (with her class) for disasters across the world, empowering her grade 3 students with the basic values of empathy.
