Golf with Nazem Kadri

NAZEM KADRI CHARITY GOLF CLASSIC SMASHES FUNDRAISING TARGET.

Almost $40k raised for East Africa Drought and Famine Relief Efforts.

In its initial debut, the Nazem Kadri Charity Golf Classic presented by Islamic Relief Canada (Reg. Charity No. 821896875RR0001) eclipsed its fundraising goal by successfully raising $39,500.  All of the proceeds will be used to provide water, food, and medical assistance to the millions of people affected by the famine in East Africa.  An excited crowd, a strong golfing contingent and an energized Nazem Kadri played under picture-perfect skies on Sunday July 24th, 2011 at the Shawneeki Golf Club in Newmarket, ON.  The host himself, Nazem Kadri, hit the most dramatic shot of the day with an eagle on the 8th hole.  Kadri’s stunning 160-yard shot took three bounces straight into the hole before a hushed crowd that erupted into cheers. After a day of golfing to save lives, the Toronto Maple Leaf’s young star was filled with praise and said, “This is a great cause. With the current crisis, I am really glad to see that we are able to raise money and help save lives in East Africa.”  Nazim’s father, Samir Kadri was runner up in the Longest Drive contest, beaten only by the Platinum Sponsor, Naveed Malik of RBC Financial.  Malik’s 280 yard drive decisively defeated any and all challengers.  At the post-golf reception, participants and sponsors generously contributed to this worthy cause by making donations that will be doubled through the Canadian Government’s matching program for the Horn of Africa.  The stunning success of this tournament’s first year sets a notable precedent for the many years to come.  Planning has already begun for 2012 and hopes are high to make the Nazem Kadri Charity Classic an annual event.  Islamic Relief Canada strives to alleviate suffering, hunger, illiteracy, and diseases worldwide regardless of color, race, religion, or creed, and to provide aid in a compassionate and dignified manner. Islamic Relief USA aims to provide rapid relief in the event of human and natural disasters and to establish sustainable local development projects allowing communities to better help themselves.
