Islamic Relief Canada calls on Canadians to support war-torn regions in the wake of COVID-19

Islamic Relief Canada (IRC) is launching a campaign to support those who are affected by the COVID-19 crisis in Yemen, Syria, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

As COVID-19 reaches regions which already struggle with endemic poverty, poor healthcare infrastructure, conflict and/or natural disasters, the anticipated outbreaks will have devastating consequences.

The charity aims to support these regions by setting up or equipping healthcare facilities with the necessary tools to fight COVID-19 (e.g. sanitizers, gloves, masks, disinfectants, etc.), by providing increased WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) facilities, and by distributing literature to encourage best practices to stay safe and impede the spread.

Reyhana Patel, Head of Public Relations at IRC, says:

“While we ourselves try to live with the impact of COVID-19 and help our local communities, it is also important that we support those living in regions that have already been devastated by war. They will need to be prepared for an outbreak, and we can all do our part to make that happen.”
