Afghanistan is currently undergoing a large-scale humanitarian crisis. Due to escalated tensions and ongoing political insecurity, families have been forced to flee their homes in search of safety.

Millions of Afghans are also struggling to put food on the table due to one of the worst droughts Afghanistan has seen. This has left 14 million people facing a food crisis and 9.5 million in a state of emergency.

Since July, over 17,000 displaced people have officially arrived in the capital Kabul, with similar situations in other major cities across Herat, Nangarhar, Balkh, and Kandahar. More than 550,000 people have been displaced in 2021 because of ongoing conflict.

Islamic Relief is on the ground and has initiated an emergency response.

Supporting Afghan Refugees Arriving in Canada

It is expected that up to half a million Afghans will flee the crisis in their homeland. As vulnerable Afghans begin arriving in Canada, they will be in need of urgent living essentials as well as access to support services.

Islamic Relief Canada is committed to help ease the resettlement of Afghan refugees in Canada, and work hand-in-hand with community organizations across the country to increase our impact.

Donate today to start helping provide hygiene and living essentials for Afghan refugees as they try to find safety and a new home.

The Forgotten People of Afghanistan

Afghanistan has been ravaged by conflict for decades, political insecurity, and a third wave of Covid-19 has left millions of people in need of urgent humanitarian assistance. Growing poverty and increasing food prices have further exacerbated the food insecurity that has left countless vulnerable people hungry.

The people of Afghanistan rely on rain-fed agriculture, livestock, and natural pastures as their source of livelihood. Now drought has left 14 million people facing a food crisis.

Islamic Relief is on the ground working to distribute emergency aid to those most in need. Your support will reach Afghanistan through urgent food supplies, hygiene kits, water storage kits and shelter supplies.

Every dollar you give increases the number of lives we are able to save.

Whoever relieves a Muslim of a burden from the burdens of the world, Allah will relieve them of a burden from the burdens on the Day of Judgement.

Islamic Relief is on the ground in Afghanistan

Islamic Relief has been working in Afghanistan for over 20 years, we were one of the few aid agencies to continue working in Afghanistan during the military incursions, and we have offices in Kabul, Herat, Bamyan, Nangarhar and Balkh.

In recent months, our teams on the ground have distributed food packs to the most vulnerable families in Kabul, Nangarhar, Balkh, Bamiyan, and Kapisa provinces. Qurbani meat distributions to over 700 families have also been carried out.

Due to the current situation, the safety and security of our staff in Afghanistan is a top priority. We are closely working with the authorities to carry out humanitarian activities as the situation gets more stable.
