Community Engagement Manager

This role will be responsible for leading on IRC’s domestic programs strategy, working with the Senior Leadership team to develop and implement the strategy and work plan for domestic engagement. This role will also include a portfolio of creating domestic engagement opportunities for volunteers and engaging the public to expand IRCs reach and impact in their communities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with IR stakeholders to research and develop projects that align with IR strategy
  • Initiate, direct, execute and manage youth led community programs through volunteers; working in close collaboration with the Director of Fund Development with the end goal of broadening IRC’s reach and impact and strengthening its presence across community
  • Within the framework of IRC’s strategic priorities, this position is responsible for the stewardship of relationships with youth led volunteers and community partners (across Canada). Expected to develop and lead youth focused community collaborations and provide expert advice and service in matters related to the development of strategic community partnerships and relationship building that meets IRC’s overall strategy
  • Development, design, implementation and oversight of strategic events and programs that mobilize large groups of volunteers in domestic projects, promoting and strengthening IRC’s affiliation with a wide range of constituents including mosques, local community organizations, major donors, media and youth
  • Develop an annual community partnerships and engagement report and recommend metrics to track and evaluate community and engagement partnerships
  • Develop and deliver a strategic community engagement program, mobilizing volunteers and building enhanced partnerships in support of Islamic Relief’s work in the community

Qualifications and Requirements:

Experience

  • Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in a leadership or managerial capacity in a non-profit organization
  • 5 – 10 years experience of mobilizing nurturing and developing the capabilities of young people
  • 5 – 10 years experience of developing leaders
  • Experience in related fields such as community development, stakeholder relations, development or management. Strong strategic thinking and project management skills
  • A successful track record in managing a variety of creative, cost-effective community engagement opportunities, from conceptual stages through delivery and follow-up/evaluation
  • Experience in awareness building, experience with project budget development and administration
  • Demonstrated experience of working in local, national and global communities.
  • Experience supervising staff essential
  • Demonstrated success in fostering collaboration and developing highly engaged teams
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain good working relationships with all levels in the organization and with employers, community partners, volunteers
  • Ability to handle the privacy of confidential information and use sound judgment in protecting proprietary and/or confidential information related to business activities
  • Exceptional planning, organization and problem-solving skills; must be proactive, and have a sense of urgency
  • Proven strength in human resources areas such as performance management, team leadership, and staff coaching/mentoring, etc.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends
