Islamic Relief Canada to host Charity Souq event in support of refugees
Islamic Relief Canada is hosting an event titled “Charity Souq: Hope for Refugees” on this coming Sunday, November 11, 2018. This event is part of the charity’s ongoing effort to support refugees around the world.
The event will be organized as a souq, a term that refers to the spirited traditional markets found throughout the Middle East as well as North and East Africa.
The event will feature vendors selling food, crafts, and other items (all-day); a seed-planting exercise (2 PM) and a paint nite (5:30 PM); and a storytelling session in which elders and youth share their experiences of perseverance in the struggle to find safety, stability and peace (7:30 PM).
The UN has estimated that, as of the end of 2017, there were over 25 million refugees in the world, the highest number on record. Islamic Relief Canada is a registered charity in Canada and part of the world’s largest Muslim NGO, and is committed to supporting refugees and internally-displaced persons (IDPs) around the world.
