Remembering Our London Family

On June 6, 2021, an act of Islamophobic terror wiped out the lives of three generations of a Muslim family in London, Ontario. 15 year old Yumnah Afzaal, 44 year old Madiha Salman, 46 year old Salman Afzaal, and 74 year old Talat Afzall became victims to anti-Muslim hate.

Nearly a year later, communities are still reeling with anger, grief, and unanswered questions.

Join us in a city near you, on the one-year anniversary of the passing of Our London Family, in action against Islamophobia, racism, and hate. Organize a community walk, join a vigil, help preserve a mural, or fund a youth arts program in commemoration of Our London Family.

The Need for Change

The world of every Muslim in Canada shook on June 6, 2021, when the lives of the Afzaal family in London, Ontario were snuffed out by an act of Islamophobic terror.

Four members of the family left behind loved ones who continue to struggle with loss, including a now 10 year old orphaned boy who survived the attack. They will never be the same. We will never be the same.

One year after the tragedy, we stand in solidarity with all Canadians of good will to commemorate the memory of Our London Family, and to stare hate in its face.

Enough is enough. We must act now.

This June, on the one-year anniversary of the passing of Our London Family, let us join together in action against Islamophobia, racism, and hate.

Organize alongside your neighbours and communities to help remember Our London Family. Their memory must drive us to make sure that the hateful savagery they fell to will not claim anymore lives.

The Art of Giving Back

There was Yumnah with the world in front of her. She was looking forward to starting Grade 10 and reuniting with her friends after years of remote learning.

Described as thoughtful, kind, and creative, Yumnah Afzaal created a mural in the London Islamic School with messages of perseverance and optimism. Her mural acts as a small part of her legacy that continues to inspire change.

In commemoration of Yumnah and her family, an artwork was installed in London’s White Oaks Mall. It retains much of Yumnah’s vision, including the dreamy vista of space and the statement: “Shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you will land among the stars.”

After the attack, her mural became a focal point of both the immense loss and the hope it could lead to positive change.

Your donation will act as Sadaqah Jaariyah to preserve Yumnah’s mural, commemorating her passion for art and change. Your support will additionally fund an arts program for youth in London, keeping Yumnah’s legacy of creativity alive.

Please Donate Now. Let her legacy live on.
