Orphan Care Support Officer

Islamic Relief’s objective is to educate our donors by reporting to donors and answering any questions, building relationships and providing different options and opportunities on how they can contribute to help different vulnerable communities globally. The Orphan Care Support Officer is responsible primarily for performing tasks related to management of our orphan sponsorship program, reporting to, facilitating donor interaction with orphans through our field offices, and provide superior customer service. This role supports the Orphan Care Team Lead. The hours for this role are between 9:00am – 5:30pm, EST – Monday to Friday with built in flexibility

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Orphan Sponsorship Program Management

  • Assist and collaborate with the Orphan Care Team in Management of the orphan sponsorship program reporting by:
    • Extracting accurate donor data from our database
    • Creating donor profiles for new records
    • Allocating orphan sponsors, a child in need according to preference
    • Generating, editing, and preparing the reports to be sent to donors with high accuracy
    • Highlighting any errors and taking the necessary steps to make corrections
    • Reporting to donors about their respective sponsored child
    • Providing annual updates to donors related to their sponsored orphans
    • Coordinate with field offices to process and log any donor requests related to the orphan sponsorship program
    • Reconciling quarterly payments for orphans
    • Updating any errors and informing respective donors accordingly


  • Take initiative to make any process improvements within tasks that are under ownership
  • Collaborates with the orphan care team to suggest improvements for better management
  • Participate in regular meetings with the teams and provide progress updates of ongoing tasks
  • Continuously communicate on our online management and communication tool
  • Execute any other tasks as assigned by the Orphan Care Team Lead

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • 1-2 years of experience related to customer service and data management
  • Post-Secondary Education; University degree preferred
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiency with Gmail and select add-ons (mail merge)
  • Excellent written and oral communication, and has the ability to problem solve
  • Is able to prioritize and reprioritize to meet donor needs, stay organized and meet deadlines as set
  • Requires strong attention to detail with the ability to perform tasks with accuracy in the absence of supervision
  • Manages to balance accuracy and efficiency of work, and meet deadlines while multi-tasking
  • Works well independently and in a team environment with a diverse group of people
  • Basic mathematical skills required
  • Self-motivated and takes initiative and has the ability to follow instructions
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge is an asset; ability to learn new databases quickly
  • Passionate about advocating about child protection and informing about our Orphan Sponsorship Program
  • Fluent in English; Ability to communicate in French is an asset
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada
  • Available to work flexible hours, additional as required
