Policy and Research Manager/Advisor

As the Policy and Research lead for Islamic Relief Canada, you will be responsible for leading Islamic Relief Canada’s policy and research activities. A critical area of this role is working in collaboration with various departments to ensure that all of Islamic Relief’s policy and research work is aligned with programming, advocacy, and fundraising goals and objectives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for the overall coordination of research projects which involves preparing, updating project documents, communicating with collaborators and investigators, implementing research projects in the field, conducting data analysis and compilation of project reports. 
  • Conducting qualitative and quantitative research projects 
  • Implement and supervise research projects, develop instruments for data collection and monitoring
  • Work in collaboration with the programs team to conduct research activities and ensure that research is aligned with Islamic Relief Canada projects and programs 
  • Contribute research expertise generated through project activities in peer-reviewed journals and other research publications 
  • Seek out research grant opportunities from universities, government, and other institutions 
  • Work closely with Advocacy and Communications personnel to ensure that all policy and research work is aligned with the organization’s goals and objectives 
  • Coordinate for recruitment and training of research staff as per projects’ requirements 
  • Attend events, roundtables, and meetings when needed
  • Support the Communications and Government Relations Team to conduct research and produce briefings when needed



  • A minimum of five to six years experience in policy, research, and advocacy – ideally in an international NGO 
  • A proven track record of successfully conducting medium to large scale research and policy projects
  • Experience preparing briefings, summaries and policy papers 
  • Experience managing and overseeing medium to large scale research projects 
  • Exceptional knowledge of how advocacy, policy, programs, and research intertwine 
  • Experience working in the non-profit sector
  • Track record of producing research and policy reports 
  • Experience supervising research teams and staff
  • Track record of applying and receiving grants for research projects

  • Knowledge on how campaigns are developed, implemented and monitored 
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential (with French desirable);
  • Strong numeracy and analytical ability, with the ability to understand and design complex budgets;
  • Good organizational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines under pressure and manage multiple tasks and competing priorities;
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn new systems easily; 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, problem-solving attitude, and ability to work both independently and as a collaborative team player
  • Bachelor’s Degree. Master’s Degree desirable.
