UX Designer

The Marketing department is IRC’s brand protector. They promote IRC and its work through the website, social media, media production and digital marketing. They research and identify IRC’s audience and target marketing efforts to reach the right people with the right message. They develop and implement marketing and digital strategies to meet IRC’s objectives through raising funds online

Reporting to the Head of Marketing, the UX designer is to redesign our current website with best user experience practices and work with developers to assist on a technology transformation onto a new platform.

The UX designer will work closely with the Marketing team and offshore developers to keep the site up to date while constantly testing and experimenting to achieve optimal conversions. The designer will be responsible for conceiving and conducting user research, interviews and surveys, and translating them into sitemaps, user flows, customer journey maps, wireframes, mockups and prototypes.

  • Translate concepts into user flows, wireframes, mockups and prototypes that lead to intuitive user experiences
  • Facilitate the organizational website vision by researching, conceiving, sketching, prototyping and user-testing experiences
  • Design and deliver wireframes, user stories, user journeys, and mockups optimized for a wide range of devices and interfaces that clearly illustrate how sites function and look like
  • Identify design problems and devise elegant solutions
  • Make strategic design and user-experience decisions related to core, and new, functions and features
  • Take a user-centered design approach and rapidly test and iterate designs
  • Identify and troubleshoot UX problems
  • Assist in the move of the website onto a new platform
  • Work closely with developers to learn the new web platform and teach it to the rest of the department
  • In the interim, also maintain functionality of the current website
  • Collaborate with other team members and departments
  • Ask smart questions, take risks and champion new ideas


  • Expertise in standard UX software such as Sketch, OmniGraffle, Axure, InVision, UXPin, Balsamiq, Framer, and the like is a must. Basic HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript skills are a plus
  • Extensive experience in using UX design best practices to design solutions, and a deep understanding of mobile-first and responsive design
  • A solid grasp of user-centered design (UCD), planning and conducting user research, user testing, A/B testing, rapid prototyping, heuristic analysis, usability and accessibility concerns.
  • Ability to iterate designs and solutions efficiently and intelligently
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate design processes, ideas, and solutions to teams and clients
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting
  • Be excited about collaborating and communicating closely with teams and other stakeholders
  • Be passionate about resolving user pain points through great design
  • Be open to receiving feedback and constructive criticism
  • Be passionate about all things UX and other areas of design and innovation. Research and showcase knowledge in the industry’s latest trends and technologies.
  • Excellent organizational skills to work independently and manage projects with many moving parts
