During Ramadan, it can be especially challenging for Muslims who are incarcerated in prisons across Canada to practice their faith and observe the holy month with dignity and respect.
This is why Islamic Relief Canada is committed to providing Ramadan necessities to Muslim inmates, as a means to elevate their spiritual connection and faith during this sacred time, through Ramadan kits.

Essentials we’re providing inmates with this Ramadan
Islamic Relief Canada, working with the Al Furqan Foundation and Iqbal Foods, has carefully curated a list of items that will serve the inmates the ability to practice Ramadan this year.
These Ramadan Kits for Inmates will bring them hope in the most blessed of months!
Dates
Inmates oftentimes do not have the luxury to request foods that meet their religious and cultural needs. Breaking a fast with a date is a sunnah of our beloved Prophet ﷺ and a tradition that unites Muslims across the world during Ramdan. They are rich in fiber, antioxidants, and nutrients that can help replenish the body after fasting, making them an essential part of Iftar.
Prayer Mat
As we navigate through our daily lives, Salah can provide us with a sense of peace, purpose and solace. Perhaps more so for our Muslim brothers and sisters in prison. Partnered with Iqbal Foods, Muslim inmates will be provided with cushioned prayer mats so that they may find some respite from the hard concrete floor they often pray on.
Thermos
Timings of Suhoor and Iftar may not always be in line with the scheduled meal times in prisons, making it difficult for Muslim inmates to break their fast with a warm meal. A thermos will be used to keep their food warm between meal times and breaking their fast, providing ease and comfort during Ramadan.
Tasbeeh
Dhikr brings all of us closer to Allahﷻ and increases our Imaan. The tasbeeh can help focus on the remembrance of Allah ﷻ, especially in loud and crowded places such as prisons.
Kufi Cap
/Hijab
Our brothers and sisters in prison deserve to stand in prayer with the modest head coverings that signify their devotion to Islam. Islamic Relief Canada will provide Muslim inmates with kufi caps and hijabs so that they may honour their faith as they wish to.
