People in Sudan face a dangerous and hungry Eid-al-Fitr

Civilians are suffering the brunt of violence as it rages across Sudan, with families trapped in their homes and running out of food and water. More than 300 civilians have now been killed and hundreds more injured as heavy fighting continues throughout residential areas. Hospitals are surrounded, cutting the injured off from desperately needed medical care.

Islamic Relief is urgently calling for an immediate ceasefire and for both sides to ensure that civilians and humanitarian workers are protected from violence, and that humanitarian agencies can safely access people in need.

“This is a sad Eid for people in Sudan and there is nothing to celebrate right now,” says Elsadig Elnour, Islamic Relief’s country director in Sudan, a country in which almost 16 million people needed humanitarian aid even before the fighting began.

Islamic Relief has worked in Sudan for nearly 40 years, and remains by the sides of families caught up in the violence. Our teams are closely monitoring the situation and gearing up to support hospitals and provide essential aid such as food as soon as the volatile situation allows.

Please support our life-saving work.
