Dua of Fasting

Dua of Fasting

Fasting during Ramadan is centred on your intention. Reciting duas (prayers) before beginning, keeping your fast, and for opening or breaking your fast is a way to create sincere intention.

When the athan for Maghrib is heard, it is encouraged to recite an iftar dua, and in the morning during sahoor/sehri, a dua for fasting. The purpose of these duas is to remind yourself of your intention before undertaking an action.

Dua of Opening Fast

Thahaba ath-thama wa-btallatil ‘urooq wa thabatal-ajru in sha’ Allah

The thirst has gone and the veins are quenched, and reward is confirmed, if Allah wills

Dua for Keeping Fast

Wa bisawmi ghadin nawaytu min shahri Ramadan

I intend to fast tomorrow in the month of Ramadan

Dua for Breaking Fast

Thahaba ath-thama wa-btallatil ‘urooq wa thabatal-ajru in sha’ Allah

The thirst has gone and the veins are quenched, and reward is confirmed, if Allah wills
