About the Al-Hijaz Challenge
The Al-Hijaz Challenge is a unique 8-day pilgrimage and trekking experience designed for those who want to deepen their connection to Islamic history while supporting vulnerable orphans around the world.
Participants will journey through the spiritual heartlands of Madinah and Makkah, experiencing key historical sites and engaging in physically rewarding treks that include three iconic mountain hikes: Mount Uhud, Mount Noor, and Mount Thawr.
This challenge includes:
- Umrah: Perform this sacred pilgrimage in the holy city of Makkah.
- Ziyara: Visit historic and religious sites that connect you to the legacy of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
- 3 Peaks Trek: Challenge yourself with hikes to Mount Uhud, Mount Noor (Cave of Hira), and Mount Thawr (Cave of Thawr).

Eligibility Requirements
- Age: Participants must be 18 years or older. Under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult who is also participating in the challenge
- Physical Fitness: Individuals should be physically fit and capable of participating in physically demanding challenges.
- Health Conditions: Participants should not have any severe medical or health conditions that could jeopardize their well-being, such as physical injuries, heart conditions, or pregnancy. *It is advisable to consult with a doctor before signing up*
- Fundraising Goal: All participants must raise 100% of their fundraising goal before the challenge begins.
- Selection Process: All applicants will undergo a selection process to ensure that participants meet the specific requirements and criteria of the challenge. Selected participants will be notified and provided with further instructions on registering and preparing for the event
Al-Hijaz Challenge Itinerary
Madinah Segment
- Day 1: November 1st
- Arrival in Madinah
- Visit the Prophet’s Mosque and register for Rawdah via the Nusuk app
- Day 2: November 2nd
- Badr gathering
- Ziyara Tour (Historical and Religious Site). Further details are to be provided.
- Day 3: November 3rd
- Mount Uhud Hike (Moderate Difficulty)
- Explore historical sites from the Battle of Uhud. Praying at Uhud Mosque.
- Enjoy views from 3,533 ft. (Approx. 7 hours for ascent, summit, Asr prayer and descent)
Makkah Segment
- Day 4: November 4th
- Travel to Makkah and perform Umrah
- Day 5: November 5th
- Mount Noor Hike (Jabal al-Noor – Cave of Hira).
- Visit the Cave of Hira (2,106 ft.).
- Approx. 5 hours for ascent, summit, Maghrib prayer and descent.
- Day 6: November 6th
- Jummah in Makkah
- Ziyara Tour (Historical and Religious Sites). Further details are to be provided
- Day 7: November 7th
- Mount Thawr Hike (Cave of Thawr)
- Explore cave where the Prophet (pbuh) and Abu Bakr (ra) sought refuge (2,460 ft.)
- Approx. 6 hours for ascent, summit, Maghrib prayer and descent.
- Day 8: November 8th
- Departure.
Note: Participants staying beyond Day 8 are responsible for arranging their own transportation and accommodation for the remainder of their trip. The itinerary is subject to change due to weather conditions, group fitness levels, or local circumstances
FAQs
What is included in the registration fee?
The registration fee will cover your accommodation, transportation within Saudi Arabia, guided treks, some meals, and overall program support.
Flights to and from Saudi Arabia and umrah visa for entry into the country are not included in the package. These will need to be arranged for by the participants themselves.
Do I need prior trekking experience?
Basic fitness and stamina are recommended, but prior trekking experience is not mandatory.
Can I extend my stay after the challenge?
Yes, but you must arrange your own accommodation and transportation after the 11-day duration of this challenge.
Is travel insurance required?
Yes, participants must secure travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and trip interruptions.
