Islamic Relief Canada Partners in Launch of Inaugural Ottawa Civic Space Summit

20 April, 2026

Islamic Relief Canada is proud to support the Inaugural Ottawa Civic Space Summit launching tomorrow.  In partnership with Resilient Societies and Cooperation Canada, this three-day global summit aims to explore how civil society together can strengthen and protect civic space amidst rising global tensions and mounting repression.

The summit will focus on three central objectives: defending civic space as a core pillar of democracy; reclaiming civic space as a hub for collective resistance and building cross-sector partnerships; and reimagining civic space through movements that centre on creativity, inclusivity and collective action.

This conference will run from April 21-23rd at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Canada. The event will bring together donors, policymakers, researchers, journalists, civic leaders, artists, musicians, and community organizers from across the world. As a partner in the summit, Islamic Relief Canada senior staff will be participating in a panel and plenary session, contributing frontline perspectives on humanitarian access, global solidarity and the protection of civic space. Speakers will also include the Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will speak at the Summit, highlighting why civic space matters and the role Canada can play in defending and advancing it globally.
