What is happening in Sudan?
Sudan is suffering the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. Yet, the world has stopped paying attention.
Three years on from the start of the war in April 2023, more than 33 million people are struggling to survive.
The scale of the crisis is staggering. Families have lost everything – homes, livelihoods, loved ones. Entire cities lie in ruins. Everything people depend on for survival has been destroyed.
Despite these devastating facts, most of the world has moved on. Headlines have faded and critical aid pledges remain unfulfilled.
Sudan doesn’t lack courage or resilience. It doesn’t lack people who are doing everything they can to save each other. What it lacks is attention, solidarity, and a world willing to act.

The reality in Sudan
The war has scarred every part of Sudan. Families have been torn apart. Schools, hospitals, and places of worship are now rubble. Main roads and transport routes have become too dangerous to cross.
Food production has declined, the economy lies in ruins and essential foods remain out of reach for many families.
At least 9,000,000 people are still displaced internally across the country, surviving in makeshift camps, under trees or even on the side of the road. This is the largest displacement crisis on earth.
More than 4,000,000 people have fled into neighboring countries like Chad and South Sudan.
More than 150,000 people are estimated to have been killed, but the real death toll is likely to be much higher as fatalities are believed to be underreported. The death toll from hunger, disease and lack of basic services could rise far higher.
The violence shows no sign of abating. Since the beginning of 2026, Sudan has seen an upsurge in drone attacks. More than 500 people have been killed this year alone, and families were not spared the grief over the Eid al-Fitr celebrations in March of this year.
