One Year On Turkey-Syria Earthquakes
One year has passed since two devastating earthquakes struck southeast Türkiye and north Syria on February 6, 2023, their impact intensified by existing vulnerabilities in the region.
2.6 million were displaced in the immediate aftermath of the earthquakes, of which nearly 800,000 in Turkey and 108,000 in Syria still remain in temporary settlements with insufficient access to water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities and healthcare services.
Today, hundreds of thousands of survivors, especially children, remain in dire need of assistance. Donate now to support the recovery and long-term needs of those affected by the earthquakes.
Thank you to the Government of Canada who announced that donations made to the Humanitarian Coalition have been matched in support of relief efforts for the Turkey Syria earthquake. As a member of the Humanitarian Coalition, all donations made through Islamic Relief Canada to the Turkiye Syria Earthquake Appeal from February 6 – 22, 2023 will be matched up to $10 million.

Islamic Relief teams are on the ground right now responding to the disaster in Adıyaman, Kahramanmaraş, Hatay, Şanlıurfa, Adiyaman, and Kilis in Türkiye and in Idlib and Aleppo, Syria.

With your ongoing support, we have provided emergency aid to 58,300 rights-holders across Türkiye and 414,000 rights-holders in Syria as part of our Phase 1: Emergency Relief.
In addition, Islamic Relief expanded its orphan sponsorship program, helping care for more than 4,000 vulnerable children in Türkiye and Syria.

We want to share Ahmad’s story and the true impact your donations have during emergencies, even after the cameras leave. Ahmad lived in Yağdöver, Türkiye, with his family of 6 until the 2023 earthquakes destroyed their home.
“Back in Syria, I was a shepherd. After moving here and losing my home and livelihood, there was a void that was hard to fill. Islamic Relief reached out and offered me 13 sheep and a ram, along with feed.
“The sheep became a source of sustenance and income. They provided milk, cheese, and meat, helping us survive in our new reality. It was a challenging endeavour, especially during the harsh winters, but it brought a sense of purpose back into my life.”
